iris electrum
Elsa Okazaki

iris electrum is the venturous and versatile musical ensemble of the Viennese composer Johannes Wakolbinger. Prepared in the dark and quiet, the 12-piece collective recently released a highly acclaimed debut album the outcome of an intense, two-year collaboration with Austrian producer Sixtus Preiss. During that time the musicians generated their own, unique process of creation, now reflected in the stories told in iris electrum's music.

Articulated through a rich diversity of sound and form, their stories are hymns of patience and openness, cautioning for delicate vigilance, consequence and vision, trusting, daring and experimenting. Orchestral intricacy and nuance embody a complex reality, indeed life itself from dramatic grandeur to subtle modesty. Adventurous and encouraging, they defy any stylistic categorisation moving effortlessly through genres, celebrating diversity and curiosity.

Johannes Wakolbinger studied drums, improvised music and composition in Vienna, Munich and Gothenburg. He develops, writes and plays for several musical projects, as well as for film and theater amongst others: Month Of Sundays, Das B war immer grau, Armes Theater Wien, Voices Of Vesper.
