Christof Dienz and his wife Alexandra have had plenty of experience in expanding the concept of traditional music and traditional musical instruments with their legendary former ensemble “Die Knödel”. Dienz then took the experiment one step further with his “looped zither”, causing quite a stir in musical circles (in his project “Dienz zithered”). He used to play the bassoon at the Vienna State Opera and works as a composer (e.g. for Klangforum Wien, Bruckner Orchester Linz, Tiroler Symphonieorchester Innsbruck, ensemble Intégrales Hamburg, Ernst Kovacic, … ).

Alexandra Dienz is a freelance double bassist, performing e.g. with Klangforum Wien, Ensemble PHACE Contemporary, Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien, at the Neue Oper Wien, Wiener Volksoper, Wiener Akademie, moderntimes_1800, etc.

Barbara Romen and Gunter Schneider have been collaborating as performers of New Music and as composers and improvisers for many years. One of their most notable interpretations was Helmut Lachenmann’s “Salut für Caudwell für zwei Gitarristen”, which also resulted in a collaboration with the choreographer Xavier Le Roy. Gunter Schneider teaches guitar and contemporary music at theVienna university of Music.

Quadrat:sch were founded in 2009 and have already performed at the major relevant festivals, e.g. “Glatt & Verkehrt” in Krems, the “Alpentöne” festival in Switzerland, the KomponistInnenforum Mittersill, at the 2010 Expo in Shanghai as Austria’s musical representatives, and at Klangspuren Schwaz and transart Bolzano in collaboration with harpist Zeena Parkins from New York and the Styrian percussionist Herbert Pirker.

Zeena Parkins
, multi-instrumentalist, composer, improvisor, well-known as a pioneer of the electric harp, has also extended the language of the acoustic harp with the inventive use of unusual playing techniques, preparations, and layers of digital and analog processing. Zeena has received numerous commissions to provide scores for film, video, chamber orchestras, theater and dance. Ms. Parkins has appeared on over 70 CD’s and in hundreds of concerts and collaborations with Jim O’Rourke, Björk , Tin Hat Trio, Yoko Ono, Don Byron, Elliott Sharp, Ikue Mori, John Zorn, Fred Frith, in Courtney Love’s band “Hole” and many more.

Herbert Pirker has worked e.g. with Kurt Ostbahn, Karl Ritter, Max Nagel, Wolfgang Mitterer, Louis Sclavis, Jak Walrath, Alex Machacek, Lorenz Raab, Bernhard Lang and many others. He is regularly invited to major European jazz events and other festivals, such as Jazzfestival Saalfelden, Jazzfest Wien, Moers Festival, Wien Modern and Klangspuren Schwaz. Pirker is a professor of jazz percussion at Bruckner University in Linz.

Kassian Erhart, born in Tyrol in 1948, is a sculptor working with wood, metal and stone. After having trained as a wood sculptor Erhart was a teacher at the Elbigenalp Carving School. Since 1991 he works freelance as an artist, e.g. creating the field of sculptures at Wenns, Pitztal / Tyrol. His pieces are shown in international exhibitions. Since the late 1990s Erhart has been developing sculptures for generating sound.
