Daniel Schnyder

Daniel Schnyder is a universal musician on many levels: One of the most sought-after contemporary composers of orchestral, chamber and vocal music, highly acclaimed jazz composer and performer, and virtuosic explorer of a vast spectrum of musical idioms.

Despite their formal diversity, Schnyder’s works reflect the personality of a distinctive and incomparable composer. They appear full of energy and relaxed at the same time; despite their complexity, they remain irresistibly intuitive.

Among Schnyder’s credits as a composer are commissions to write compositions for the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in New York, the Radio Symphony Orchestra in Berlin, the Tonkünstler Orchestra in Vienna, The NorrlandsOperan in Sweden, the Chicago Sinfonietta, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich (4th Symphony, commissioned by David Zinman), the NDR Orchestra in Hannover, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the New York based new music group “Absolute Ensemble” under the direction of Kristjan Jaervi (Bass Trombone Concerto for David Taylor), the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the International Trombone Association with trombonist Joe Alessi and the Nashville Symphony, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne with clarinetist Eddie Daniels, and the Menuhin Festival Gstaad, among many others. Recent works include commissions for compositions and program concepts awarded by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bremer Musikfest, the Camerata Bern, and the Crested Butte Festival in Colorado.
