A few highlights: The festival’s opening on 22 October, hosted by Theater an der Wien, is dedicated to the composer Olga Neuwirth, whose work is a major program focus this year. Lothar Knessl, one of the founders of the festival, curates a special series of concerts for the silver jubilee season. And in memory of John Cage, who was born one hundred years ago and died twenty years ago, the festival takes a close look at the oeuvre of this exceptional composer.
The partnership between WIEN MODERN and col legno first manifested itself through the 2011 release “Besides Feldman” by Pulsinger/Kustin/Jeffery/Hegen. This year our second joint production hits the shelves, the album “Notturni” featuring Marino Formenti on piano. It was recorded during last season’s series of late-night concerts of the same title. The album will be officially presented at the start of the festival. And we have already positioned our microphones for WIEN MODERN 2012, so you can look forward to the next chapter in this fruitful collaboration.
